I’ve
driven to the Surrey Writers’ Conference before, but I’ve never seen so many
people pulled over by the highway patrol.
No less than three vehicles were stopped, I assume for speeding. This included one middle-aged jerk—balding, driving
a red convertible—who tailgated a number of us on the freeway until we switched
to a slower lane to let him pass.
Compensating for much? I saw a
motorcycle cop pull him over.

So
I arrived early for the conference and took in a movie. I don’t have time to review Argo, so I’ll just say that Ben Affleck
has somehow become a master director.
